ASHCROFT SAYS WE MUST
IMPROVE OUR BORDER SECURITY

 Hijackers

TIM RUSSERT: At least nine hijackers were in the United Sates on valid visas. Three more were in the United States legally but stayed beyond their expiration, a top U.S. immigration official said yesterday. He said he is still mystified as to how the others got in.

How could that possibly be? Terrorists given a visa to enter the country, staying too long, and at least six others, simply sneaking into the country.

Ashcroft

ASHCROFT: Well, we have a responsibility to improve our security for those coming into the country. The president spoke in his campaign of reorganizing the Immigration and Naturalization Service. We have very frequently placed a lot of our resources along the southern border with Mexico and we have done a pretty good job of curtailing what had been an unrestrained flow there.

We do need to improve our border security.
