Napolitano: Send National Guard back to the border
Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, President-elect Barack Obama's reported primary choice for Homeland Security secretary, says she still thinks National Guard troops should be sent back to the U.S.-Mexico border.
American Patrol Report Comment
In 2006 President Bush ordered 6,000 National Guard to the border. As reported by American Border Patrol, the Guard began arriving at the border in late 2006 and reached its peak in early 2007 when President Bush visited the Border Patrol Station at Yuma. Within a month many of the Guard outposts had been abandoned, and by January 2008 none could be found. "Other than doing construction work, the National Guard had a real presence on the border itself for less than six months, and even then they probably had little effect on stopping illegal immigration," said Glenn Spencer of ABP.
At one point, based on rules of engagement established by Gov. Napolitano, when confronted by armed intruders the Guard actually retreated. According to VDare.com, March Lopez Jr. of Governor Napolitano's staff said "They did what we thought what was said that they should do." Which was to run away. ~~More Here~~ |
